‘Black Panther’ Wins Big at the 2018 MTV Movie & TV Awards

The 2018 MTV Movie & TV Awards has come to an end and it’s safe to say that Wakanda completely flooded the show, and are we really that surprised?

Hosted by “Girls Trip” megastar Tiffany Haddish, the 2018 MTV Movie & TV Awards aired from the Baker Hangar in Santa Monica, California. From Haddish’s sidesplitting opening scene, in which she challenges T’Challa (Chadwick Boseman) to a fight, to Michael B. Jordan accepting an award for best villain, the annual award show definitely had some Wakandan flair.

The 2018 Blockbuster, comprised of an all-star cast including Angela Basset, Forest Whitaker, Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira and Daniel Kaluuya, cleaned up the award show – with Chadwick Boseman receiving two of the four trophies. While accepting his award for Best Hero for his role as T’Challa, Boseman paid homage to real-life hero James Shaw Jr. Back in April, Shaw saved lives after he wrestled an assault-style rifle away from a gunman in a Tennessee Waffle House.

“If you don’t know James Shaw Jr., he fought off a gunman in Antioch, Tennessee, at a Waffle House. He saved lives…” He said as Shaw received a roaring applause. “This is gonna live at your house.”

Along with Boseman, Michael B. Jordan took home a golden popcorn for Best Villain. While accepting the award, Jordan took a jab at Rosanne Barr, saying “I’m shocked that I won this award for Best Villain. I thought Roseanne had this in the bag,”

Other big winners of the night included the hit Netflix series, Stranger Things. Including Best Show, the series’ star Millie Bobby Brown took home a trophy for Best Performance in a Show, while another star Noah Schnapp won Most Frightened Performance. Even show host, Tiffany Haddish, took home a coveted golden popcorn for her performance in the 2017 megahit Girls Trip.
