After waiting over a decade, fans of the Bad Boys franchise will finally get a third installment for the action-comedy film!
On Wednesday (May 9), Sony Pictures confirmed that the popular film – starring Will Smith and Martin Lawrence – will return to theaters in 2020! News of the film’s arrival may come as a surprise, especially Lawrence, who said back in 2017 that although he was excited to do another installment, he doesn’t think it’ll happen.
“I don’t think we’re going to get one, not the way everything’s turning out,” Lawrence said to Entertainment Weekly. “Will is off doing another movie, and I don’t think it’s going to happen.”
As Deadline reports, Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah (Black, Gangsta) will direct the film, with Jerry Bruckheimer (Remember the Titans, Enemy of the State) serving as producer. It has been reported that the film will center on Mike Lowery (Smith), who is going through a midlife crisis as a bachelor, while Marcus Burnett hits the streets as a private investigator. Although the two are no longer friends, a new enemy will bring them together.
The original Bad Boys, which premiered back in 1995, was an automatic hit and grossed over $140 million. Like the first, the second installment of the film also did well in the box office, grossing $273,339,556 worldwide and over $14 million during its opening weekend.
“Bad Boys For Life” is slated to hit theaters January 17, 2020.
