Apple Orders Series Starring Octavia Spencer “Are You Sleeping”
Octavia Spencer will be taking her talents to Apple! It has been confirmed that the tech company has given a 10-episode series order to a thriller drama starring the acclaimed actress!
Titled “Are You Sleeping,” the series is based on the true-crime novel by Kathleen Barber. Created and written by Nichelle Tramble Spellman (The Good Wife, Mercy), the series give a look into the nations obsession with true-crime podcasts and shows the viewers the consequences when the pursuit of justice is put in the public eye. According to Elite Daily, “Are Your Sleeping” includes two female main characters – murder victim’s daughter Josie and Investigative reporter Poppy. It has not been confirmed whether Spencer will play the podcast host Poppy or Josie, whose role will serve as double duty as she has a twin who is her close friend before the murder of their father.
As Deadline reports – the series, which hails from Reese Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine and Peter Chernin’s Chernin Entertainment/Endeavor Content, will be executive produced Spencer via her Orit Entertainment, Tramble, Witherspoon and more! Host and creator of the crime podcast Serial, Sarah Koenig will consult on the series. The series will mark the latest order from Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine, which has projects at Hulu including the Kerry Washington produced series “Little Fires Everywhere.”
Following the announcement, Spencer took to social media to share her excitement for the upcoming project. “Mama is happy to be home filming in LA!!! #Blessed,” she wrote.
There is no word from Apple on a premiere date for the “Are You Sleeping.”
