Looks like director of Fox’s hit show Empire, Sanaa Hamri, will be expanding her relationship with 20th Century Fox Television. It has been announced that Hamri inked a deal with production company.
According to Variety, the company announced Tuesday (March 13) that the acclaimed director and producer signed a deal with the company behind the award-winning drama series. Under the new deal, Hamri will develop new projects, direct and serve as executive producer on the forthcoming drama from Ilene Chaiken and Melissa Scrivner Love. Along with that, Hamri will also continue to serve as an executive producer on Empire.
“Sanaa’s an extraordinarily talented director with a deep and unique understanding of pop culture, earned from years of establishing herself in the music video scene as both an editor and director,” Jonnie Davis, President of creative affairs for 20th Century Fox Television said. “She’s a creative force of nature, able to translate bold material seamlessly to the screen, and is simply one of the most current and relevant directors working in television today. We’re thrilled to expand our relationship with her, continuing her role as executive producer and director on ‘Empire,’ while ensuring that she’ll be able to bring her talent and vision to a variety of other studio projects.”
Hamri has directing credits in several episodes for various television shows. Some of those include Shamless, Hit the Floor, Glee and Elementary. The Moroccan-born director also directed numerous music videos including Nicki Minaj’s “Fly” and “Super Bass,” Prince’s “Call My Name,” Mariah Carey’s “Crybaby,” and Destiny Child’s 2002 hit “Nasty Girl.”
