Get ready everybody, the Obama’s might be coming to Netflix! It has been reported that Barack Obama is in “advanced negotiations” with Netflix to produce a show with Michelle Obama.
According to the New York Times, the 44th President of the United States will produce content that will be exclusive to the streaming service. Although the number of episodes and format has not been decided, the Times suggest that the series will “highlight inspirational stories.” It is reported that in a possible show idea, Obama could moderate conversations on topics including health care, voting rights, foreign policy, immigration and climate change – while Michelle will cover topics such as nutrition.
“President and Mrs. Obama have always believed in the power of storytelling to inspire,” said Eric Schultz, Senior Adviser to the former President. “Throughout their lives, they have lifted up stories of people whose efforts to make a difference are quietly changing the world for the better. As they consider their future personal plans, they continue to explore new ways to help others tell and share their stories.”
As the New York Times reports, the deal with the streaming service will provide the Obamas an unfiltered connection to the public – which has approximately 118 million subscribers around the world. Barack Obama already has a strong presence on social media. On Instagram alone, Obama has over 17 million followers and 101 million followers on Twitter. As for Michelle, the former First Lady has amassed over 10 million followers on Twitter and more than 19 Million followers on Instagram.
It has been reported that along with Netflix, executives from Apple and Amazon, who have their own streaming services, expressed interest in cutting a deal with Obama. However, it is apparent that Netflix reigned supreme to land a deal with the former President.
Although the deal isn’t finalized and there is no premiere date for reported series, we can only hope a series with the Obama’s will be coming to the streaming service.
