Sweet Christmas! Netflix announces the return of Luke Cage with a new trailer and release date, and it’s coming soon than you think!
According to the trailer description, the second season picks up after Cage clears his name and becomes a celebrity in the streets of Harlem. With a new season comes a new foe and although the Marvel superhero returns to keep the streets safe, Luke (Mike Colter) will be “forced to confront the fine line that separates a hero from a villain.”
In addition to Colter, fans will see familiar faces like Alfre Woodard, Theo Rossi, Simone Missick and Rosario Dawson – with new additions including Gabrielle Dennis (Insecure) and Mustafa Shakir (The Deuce). As Marvel News states, Shakir will play the role of John McIver, a natural leader whose mission is centered on Harlem and vengeance. As for Dennis, the Rosewood actress will star in the series as Tilda Johnson, who is a bright holistic doctor with a difficult history in Harlem and no matter how much she tries to stay away from trouble, it seems to always find her.
“Mustafa’s incredible presence and power ignited us from our first meeting, and Gabrielle brings the charm and smarts to a very complicated role,” said executive producer Jeph Loeb per Marvel. “Both will be wonderful additions to our already magnificent cast.”
According to Variety, actress-director Lucy Liu will direct the first episode of the forthcoming season. Cheo Hodari Coker will return as the series showrunner and serve as executive producer alongside Aïda Croal (True Blood) Marvel’s head of television Jeph Loeb and Jim Chory (Legion).
