‘Black Panther’ Breaks Box Office Records During Opening Weekend!

All Hail the King!

As expected, Marvel Studios’ Black Panther made history during its opening weekend! The Disney – Marvel Studios’ film did not just shatter Hollywood’s expectations but surpassed several records – making it the fifth biggest opening of all time!

The highly anticipated film brought in an estimated $192 million in North America for the three-day weekend and is projected to earn $218 million over the four-day holiday weekend, as The Hollywood Reporter reports. The film also earned an estimated $362 million internationally. Along with a record shattering debut, the film is only second behind The Avengers as one of Marvel’s biggest debuts, beating out Marvel blockbusters like “Captain America: Civil War,” “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” and “Iron Man 3.”

The Ryan Coogler-directed film also shattered records for a February debut, which previously belonged to Deadpool. The film starring Ryan Reynolds, brought in $152.2 million over the holiday weekend during its 2016 debut. Playing in over 4,000 theaters across the U.S., Black Panther not only broke records but also sat well with many film critics! According to THR, audience gave the film an A+ CinemaScore –making it the second Marvel film to receive the mark. The film also received a 97 percent “fresh” on Rotten Tomatoes, with a 77 percent audience rating.

“There are seven billion people on this planet and they come from all walks of life. Audiences deserve to see themselves reflected on the big screen,” Disney distribution chief Dave Hollis said per THR. “Beyond being the right thing to do, it makes for richer storytelling.”
