‘Grown-ish’ Renewed for a Second Season

It looks like Grown-ish won’t be going anywhere any time soon and we’re here for it! It has been confirmed that the Black-ish spinoff has been renewed for a second season.

According to Shadow and Act, the news of the second season arrived by creator and producer Kenya Barris as surprise to the young actress at the inaugural Freeform Summit on Thursday (January 18). With just a couple in for the new season, the sophomore season will consist of 20 episodes as opposed to the first season’s 13 episodes. It is reported that Grown-ish opened as Freeform’s best comedy debut in almost six years.

Grown-ish garnered 4.5 million views across linear and digital platforms, which is the best digital debut in the networks history –as Shadow and Act reports. The show was the most social cable series on television for Wednesday, with 214,000 engagements across Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and Tumblr.

After the announcement of the second season, Shahidi took to Instagram to share the exciting news and thank fans and the Grown-ish crew. “TFW they tell you GROWNISH JUST GOT RENEWED FOR ANOTHER SEASON///thank you to everyone who tuned in, dvrd, and tweeted (plus shared the love) + the Writers, Crew, and Cast who made it all possible,” she wrote. “Much love to [Kenya Barris] for creating something so brilliant and trusting me with it.”


The series follows Zoey Johnson (Shahidi) and her journey as she enters her first year of college. Along with Shahidi, the series stars Trevor Jackson, R&B duo Chloe x Halle, Chris Parnell, Francia Raisa, Deon Cole and Luka Sabbat.
