Police in Atlanta are investigating after two people were killed and more injured following a shooting at a Cousin Stizz concert.
According to the Atlanta Journal Constitution, the incident took place on Sunday (November 12) at The Masquerade at Underground Atlanta. Officers were called to the scene after shots rang out at the popular venue. Atlanta police Officer Lisa Bender confirms that two of the four victims got disorderly and climbed on stage before the main act. Bender says the suspected gunman took issue with the rowdy patrons and an argument ensued.
“The patron pulled out a pistol and shot the rowdy concertgoers, according to police. The gunman also fired toward the ground, and “most likely” hit the other victims at that time,” she said to the AJC.
“The suspected shooter, still armed, was witnessed by unarmed security but was not successfully detained,” Bender added.
One of the victims was pronounced dead on the scene with a gunshot wound to the chest, while the other died at the hospital with gunshot wounds to the upper and lower torso. Officers confirm the other two victims, who are believed to be innocent bystanders, are stable with foot and ankle wounds.
Following the deadly shooting, the Boston native released a statement on his social media saying he is “completely heartbroken” over the incident. “Completely heartbroken. Before I hit the stage in Atlanta tonight, there was a shooting in the crowd, two people died and two others were injured. I’ve always called my shows family reunions because they’re never anything but fun, safe, good vibes and positivity. I’m in shock and at a loss of words for the senseless violence. My thoughts and prayers go out to the victims and their families.”
Police have not made any arrest and the investigation is ongoing.
