Chris Brown might have been in the news last week for expressing his disappointment in only three days being factored into streams and sales for his first week of album sales. However, it looks like Heartbreak On A Full Moon did numbers and then some. With his latest studio project effort, and out of eight solo studio album releases in total, Brown has scored his seventh number one on the Billboard Hip-Hop/R&B charts. It also debuted at number three on the Billboard 200 chart.
The success that the “Privacy” singer saw could very well be the result of how hard he went in the paint to ask that fans of Team Breezy do whatever they could to make sure he saw success his first week. It became particularly crucial after the R&B singer learned that because he dropped his album on Halloween, which fell on a Tuesday, the only days Nielsen would factor in his first week of sales total would be Wednesday through Friday.
Among his requests were that fans buy multiple copies of the album, but on separate receipts so that they would count as separate transactions and that they move copies of his album to the front of the shelves in front of other artists’ albums. He also said that for fans that couldn’t buy the album right away, they should stream and even engage in streaming parties.
In addition to the great news he had about his newly minted chart position for HOAFM, Brown also shared in an Instagram post that a gold plaque signifying that he has sold 500,000 copies is within reach. He even posted a picture on Instagram as his receipt.
Just last week, Brown was putting the industry and critics in check about who he is as an artist in a statement released on Instagram. “I ain’t bringing Bhris back! My music will forever speak for me. So anyone who think I’m finna keep letting yall try to make an issue out of love needs to take several seats. I came to NY for a great free concert, ima finally say this sh*t… I’m the best out of all these artist and I will not allow u broke following need a hook from Chris Brown so yall records pop to say otherwise! Yall better start showing some f*cking respect and act right! I make music for people who like my sh*t!!!”
Period. Brown’s latest album, HOAFM is available now on all streaming platforms as well as for purchase wherever albums are sold.
