Beyoncé Drops “Mi Gente” Remix and Donates Proceeds to Hurricane Relief
Following the major devastation caused by Hurricane Harvey, Beyoncé stepped up and provided help to the residents affected by the hurricane that claimed the lives of 70 people. Now, Queen Bey is doing what she can to help those in Puerto Rico, Mexico, and other Caribbean countries affected by Hurricane Maria.
The “Lemonade” singer recently released a remix of the J. Balvin and Willy Williams’ hit single “Mi Gente” and announced that all of the single’s sales will go to relief efforts in Puerto Rico, Mexico, and Caribbean countries. Bey took to Instagram to make the announcement and share a snippet of the remix, which features her singing in both Spanish and English. “I am donating my proceeds from this song to hurricane relief charities for Puerto Rico, Mexico and the other affected Caribbean islands. To help go to Beyonce.com/reliefefforts,” she wrote.
The post garnered more than one million views within one hour of posting and now has almost five million votes.
“We’re heartbroken by the hurricanes and earthquakes that have devastated families around the world,” a statement says on Bey’s website. “There are many ways to help. We’ve listed a few organizations that are on the ground from Mexico to the Caribbean, lending a hand to those who need it most.”
Beyoncé’s website also shares each organization that are a part of the hurricane relief. Along with TIDAL X BROOKLYN –the organizations include: UNICEF Disaster Relief for those in Mexico, Caribbean Emergency Management Association (CEMA), a partnership between the American Foundation for The University of the West Indies (AFUWI), and the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA) to help the various Caribbean communities affected by Hurricane Maria and Hurricane Irma, One America Appeal for Floridians affected by Hurricane Irma, Bread Of Life for victims in Houston, and Somos Una Voz to help the people of Puerto Rico who recently suffered from Hurricane Maria.
