Azealia Banks Squashes One-Sided Beef With Nicki Minaj

Azealia Banks just made headlines for seemingly initiating a conflict with hip hop’s latest female sensation, Cardi B. However, the rapper is now coming forward about a conflict she once had with another female rapper at the top of her game, Nicki Minaj. The 26-year-old Harlem native apologized for any “catty” or spiteful thing that she ever said or did toward Minaj.

The “212” artist shared the apology conversation that went on between she and Minaj on her Instagram account. “Hey, I’m not sure if you will see this but I wanted to apologize for whatever catty sh*t I’ve said to you or about you in the past. I really do enjoy your artistry and think you’re so intelligent and clever. You have a really brilliant art mind and often times remind me a lot of myself,” she said.

“Now that I’m growing up I’m realizing a lot about what it means to be a strong woman and you’ve showed nothing but strength and perseverance from day one,” Banks continued. “You deserve that Grammy, you deserve a rich Russian billionaire to sweep you off your feet so you never have to consort with these dingy n***as in hip-hop again.”

Banks also touched on an incident that was perceived by the public – and maybe even Minaj – as a very spiteful act. She explained that when she worked with Minaj’s ex Safaree, it was due to industry pressure and wanting to match the success she believed he helped Minaj acquire. After working with him, she noted his immense love for the self-proclaimed Queen of Rap and that coupled with his process made her admire Minaj and her artistry even more.

“You have my word, that from here on out, I will never say any negative or catty things about you ever again,” Banks concluded. “Inside of all of us there’s a little black girl who cries and the last thing I want to see is that little black girl cry.”

In a surprising turn of events, the Pinkprint artist actually replied to Banks. “You’re very talented & very smart. Focus on what really matters from now on,” she said.

It’s great to see that two women in the same industry can uplift and empower one another versus feeling like competition means there aren’t enough seats at the table for everyone that’s hungry. Now that she and Minaj have squashed their mostly one-sided beef, maybe Banks will allow herself to follow that lead with resolving things with Ms. Cardi B.

Earlier this week, Banks took to Twitter to give her followers some of her infamously candid thoughts.

“She’s only black when black want to include themselves in a success story,” Banks tweeted on Monday (Sept. 25). “I wanted spicy Latina and she gave me poor man’s nicki.”

“Because I thought she was going to be a Latina hottie and not a poor mans nicki. It went the other way now I’m over it.”

Cardi responded to the criticism by posting a video that showed Banks vibing to her hit Billboard No. 1 single “Bodak Yellow” with the caption, “One of the reasons Bodak Yellow went #1! Cuz even the HATERS love it!”

Banks then accused Cardi of using a ghostwriter for “Bodak Yellow.”
