Thanks to her hit single “Love Galore,” singer SZA has officially reached platinum status. The platinum plaque is a first for the budding neo soul singer, whose music can be categorized as alternative R&B, has seen a wave of success after the release of her debut studio album CTRL. On Wednesday (Sept. 20), her long-awaited body of work, that has been on repeat for many listeners since its release, earned its first major accolade. The album itself has climbed its way up to the number three spot on the Billboard chart this week.
“Love Galore,” which features rapper Travis Scott, is the dreamy second single that supported the release of her album. The song has been on repeat for much of the summer, receiving tons of airplay and became a runaway hit of the three tracks that CTRL has produced so far as singles. Other singles include “Drew Barrymore,” “Supermodel,” and “The Weekend” (which has not yet been released as an official single, but talks of Solange directing the visual has social media highly anticipating the music video).
SZA took to social media to spread the word about her accomplishment. “I GOTTA LIL SILVER THINGY W MY FUGGIN NAME ON THA SIIIDE ! DIS SH*T CRAZY!” she captioned her Instagram post. “… really don’t have jack to say but thank u so much to every single person who ran that sh*t back to scream at the n*gga they didn’t have . Thank you all for listening to my thoughts at all .”
She also tweeted about her feat, making sure to thank the TDE team, Scott, and of course the people who gave her record play: the fans. “MY FIRST PLATINUM RECORD !!! AHHH!! FACK!! Thank you SO f*cking much for listening !”
The 26-year-old has been booked and busy following the release of CTRL. After supporting Bryson Tiller on this year’s Set It Off Tour, she started headlining her own tour, the CTRL Tour in support of her project. She also scored a feature on Maroon 5’s latest hit “What Lovers Do.” Since the song premiered this month, it has accrued over 65 million streams on Spotify. Watch the visual below.
