ICYMI: Rihanna released her long-awaited cosmetic line Fenty Beauty and sent the whole world in a frenzy. Before its September 8 release, fans were clamoring over the line, which consisted of highlighters, contour sticks, lip products, and 40 different shades tailored for every skin tone. With all the hype surrounding the long-awaited line, it looks like fans of the “Wild Thoughts” singer and makeup addicts alike weren’t the only ones who took notice.
As Vibe reports, following the release of Fenty Beauty, several cosmetic brands attempted to show off their “color range” and exclusivity for women of color. As expected, Kylie Jenner’s Kylie Cosmetics brand took to Twitter to heavily advertise its models of color, particularly singer Justine Skye.
The company tweeted a photo of the “Purple Unicorn” rocking the brand’s lip color “Brown Sugar,” which was deleted after users called out the clear stunt. At the time of its release in August 2016, Jenner stated she designed it with dark skin tones in mind – “I created this kit to achieve the perfect nude for deeper skin tones!” the brand wrote on Instagram. “But I think it also looks amazing on everyone. I love this shade.”
Along with the culture vulture that is Kylie Jenner, Estee Lauder conveniently took to Instagram sharing an image of their foundation selection swatched on the arms of three different women in an attempt to show off its shade range.
If you thought it stopped there, Marc Jacobs joined in – as the brand posted a medley of models of color accompanied with its makeup line on Instagram, as Vibe reports.

While various cosmetic brands attempt to show they include women with darker skin tones, Fenty Beauty has reportedly sold out of its darker foundation shades.
I work at Sephora and I’ve NEVER SEEN SO MANY WOC IN OUR STORE. Plus, all the deeper shades of fenty beauty are sold out. That’s amazing.

In the past, brands like L’Oréal, Lancome, Bobbi Brown and YSL have attempted to expand their shade range but it simply doesn’t compare to the wide shade range Fenty Beauty has to offer. So with that said, RiRi, you’re doing amazing sweetie!
