Teyana Taylor Came to Slay: Watch her Rock the Runway During NYFW

Teyana Taylor has been wowing the public with her gym goals body since her now iconic dance performance in Kanye West’s “FADE” visual last year. Although the musician/actress was predominantly known by the urban community for her artistry, Taylor rose to mainstream prominence after the video’s premiere during the 2016 MTV VMAs. The gravy train has been rapidly moving for her ever since as the artist has landed spreads in several high profile magazines, garnered accolades, and can now also say that she is taking her performances to another level.

During New York Fashion Week, Taylor slayed the runway for the Italian streetwear brand GCD on Friday of NYFW. The next night, she did the same thing for the Phillip Plein runway show. And in the process of slaying, she owned the shows of both runways – serving abs for days and a sleek platinum blonde mane.

26-year-old Taylor spoke to USA Today exclusively about her GCDS runway appearance. “When I watched the video I was like, ‘Damn, I’m so extra.’ But then I realized I’m not extra, I’m spicy, that’s all. I’m just spicy, I put a little spice in everybody’s life.”

The model, wife, and mom also touched on an insecurity she was having about walking in NYFW for the first time with her diminutive 5’5’’ among Amazon models. “I think it’s amazing, that day I walked in the show. And it’s so crazy because I was like, I’m short, and when I walked out I wasn’t even expecting people to clap.”

“And when everyone went crazy I snatched my glasses off and flipped my hair, and then that became a meme,” the mother of one continued. “So I’ve been, like, memed up for the past two days. But it was kinda dope to see that black girl magic, and to put my own ‘umph’ on it.”

While walking in Phillip Plein’s show, Taylor indulged in doing her own thing by performing a dance routine during Future’s performance of “Mask Off.” Her husband NBA baller Iman Shumpert looked like a proud husband, recording his wife just like many other spectators in attendance, and rapping the words to Future’s hit song along the way.

What’s next for Taylor? The artist has recently starred in the VH1 show The Breaks, which is in the process of being picked up by another Viacom network, BET. She is also working on Honey 4, which is slated to debut next year. Additionally, a sequel to the cult classic Set It Off is also in the works. One thing’s for sure, Teyana Taylor stays booked.
