Issa Rae Is the New Face of CoverGirl Cosmetics

The good news keeps on coming! Black creative extraordinaire Issa Rae can now add model to her ever-growing list of jobs. The Insecure star and creator is the newest face of CoverGirl cosmetics!

The writer/actress confirmed the news via her social media platforms Tuesday (September 12) that she will be joining forces with the long-time makeup brand whose mantra of “Easy, breezy, beautiful CoverGirl” seems to fit Rae to a T. Additionally, Rae fits the company’s continuous strides to include as much diversity as possible by choosing a variety of women to act as spokeswomen. As such, Rae will be endorsing and starring in their upcoming makeup campaign.

With this new brand deal, the former Awkward Black Girl is in great company. Previous and current CoverGirls of color include Janelle Monae, Rihanna, Zendaya, and Queen Latifah – just to name a few.

Rae shared her excitement for the forthcoming project in a poignant statement, “My character is ever-evolving, and makeup is a tool to help transform my persona – whether for a role I play in content that I produce, or the different roles I take on in my life. Becoming a COVERGIRL means a lot because the brand recognizes just how important it is for people to embrace their individuality and express themselves in unique and diverse ways. This has been a major part of my personal journey, and a message that I want to share with others.”

“In all my awkward, black years, I never imagined I’d be a @COVERGIRL! SO honored & SO excited,” she wrote on Twitter.
