Drake is the latest celebrity to join the ranks of the already impressive star-studded telethon for Hurricane Harvey relief. Other celebrities taking part in the telethon include Jamie Foxx, Kelly Rowland, Matthew McConaughey, Reese Witherspoon, Michael Strahan, Robert De Niro, Sofia Vergara, and the recently announced Oprah and Beyoncé. Houston native Bun B is the mastermind behind the telethon and announced plans for the three-city telethon via TMZ.
According to TMZ, Houstatlantavegas rapper Drake and “Love Yourself” singer Justin Bieber are the latest artists to sign up for the charity event. The telethon, which is called “Hand in Hand: A Benefit for Hurricane Harvey Relief,” will be taking place on September 12. It will air across all major broadcast networks ABC, CBS, FOX, and NBC, as well as CMT. Due to the anticipated damage the country is expecting from the impending hit of Hurricane Irma, donations are said to be for wherever relief is needed.
Drake, who is known for his affiliation with his hometown Toronto, also has roots in Houston. He spent a lot of his childhood going back and forth between the two cities and often reps them both, in addition to Atlanta and Las Vegas. The rapper showed his support to the people of Texas shortly after Hurricane Harvey made way for its devastation.
The More Life artist previously promoted the crowdfunding campaign effort put on by J.J. Watt and also donated $200,000 to the organization towards Hurricane Harvey relief efforts.
Donations for the telethon will be processed through phone calls, text messages, and the telethon’s website. Organizations that will receive proceeds from the telethon include Habitat for Humanity, United Way of Greater Houston, Save the Children, and more.
