Laverne Cox Is One of the Newest Faces In Ivy Park’s Inclusive AW17 Collection

Yesterday (Sept. 6), Beyoncé’s athleisure line Ivy Park revealed Orange Is The New Black actress Laverne Cox as the star of the brand’s AW17 campaign. With a motto that echoes praise for “the beauty and strength found in our uniqueness” and “tapping into your inner hero,” choosing Cox as one of the Ivy Park’s new faces is a victory for inclusiveness and a testament to shaping our own ideals of beauty standards.

On Ivy Park’s Instagram page, they posted a picture of Cox with her head held high. The caption read, “’It’s about being free. Listening and moving without any judgement or limitation.’ #IVYPARK”

“To be honest, it doesn’t feel real,” Cox shared with People. “It feels like some weird fantasy that I’ve had since Destiny’s Child. It feels amazing that I get to be a part of this brand that has already inspired me and be working with a woman who has especially been a huge inspiration to me and so many folks around the world.”

The models featured in the AW17 campaign challenge age, identity, gender, and European standards of beauty. Alongside Cox, 60-something year old choreographer Karen McDonald, up and coming model Souffrant Ralph, and ebony-skinned beauty Grace Bol.

Cox, who idolizes Beyoncé, had nothing but praise for the woman who offered her the opportunity and designed the line. “Beyoncé is someone who has pushed herself beyond what even she thought she could do,” Cox said. “It’s a sense of becoming a superwoman, and really pushing yourself beyond all measure.”

With that kind of fire behind her eyes, no wonder Cox is serving us life in these photos. Watch the video for the Ivy Park AW17 campaign below.
