The 2017 Emmy Nominations Have Been Announced: Did Your Favorites Make the Cut?
The nominations for the 69th Primetime Emmy Awards were announced this morning (July 13) and surprisingly, a lot of freshman series are getting a lot of love from the prestigious Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.
The annual awards show rewards and recognizes excellence in television programming. The Emmys has extended nominations to freshman shows like Sterling K. Brown-starring NBC drama This Is Us, the Hulu drama The Handmaid’s Tale, Netflix’s Stranger Things (which has a whopping 18 nominations), and FX’s newest hit Atlanta, created by and starring Donald Glover.
Some notable individual nominees include Sterling K. Brown (This Is Us), who is nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series and Viola Davis (How to Get Away with Murder) for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series.
In addition to his series being nominated for Outstanding Comedy Series (Atlanta), Donald Glover has received a nomination for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series. Black-ish actress Tracee Ellis Ross received recognition for her work in the popular family sitcom and was nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series. Her television hubby Anthony Anderson is also a contender in the comedy category, alongside Glover.
