Philadelphia Celebrates “Kevin Hart Day” and Honors Comedian with Mural

Kevin Hart just received the best birthday gift ever. The famous funnyman was honored with a celebration and mural of himself near his childhood home.

According to NBC 10, the festivities took place on Thursday (July 6), which was dubbed “Kevin Hart Day” in the City of Brotherly Love. Free to the public, the celebration was led by Councilman David Oh and Mural Arts Philadelphia and also included performances from Philly artists Freeway, Chill Moody, Bria Marie and The International DJ Casper. The decision to create the mural was introduced by Councilman Oh to recognize Hart’s dedication to his hometown and to the arts.

“Kevin Hart is a fantastic ambassador for the City of Philadelphia, and this is a simple way to show him gratitude,” Councilman Oh said to NBC 10. “Whether through his hilarious sense of humor or through his heartfelt generosity towards his hometown, Kevin Hart knows how to bring a smile to everyone in Philadelphia.”

During the event, Councilman Oh invited the Ride Along star back to his hometown to unveil the mural on Max’s Steaks, located a block away from Hart’s childhood home. Hart shared the exciting news on Instagram and thanks the city that made him who he is today.

The father of two (and one on the way) has definitely put on for his city. The Get Hard actor has donated thousands of dollars to help improve the city of Philadelphia. Back in 2013, Hart donated $250,000 to the Philly School District and the Parks & Recreations centers for new computers. But generous donations didn’t end there! Hart also sponsored college scholarships for four Philly High school students, valued at $50,000 each.

Hart recently starred in five stand-up specials and is slated to star in the remake of the classic film Jumaji alongside Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, which is slated to premiere Christmas of 2017. The comedian also dethroned Jerry Seinfeld after he was named the highest paid comedian by Forbes– raking in an estimated $87.5 million between June 2015 and June 2016.
