Nicki Minaj Rewarded With the Key to Queens

Although Nicki Minaj didn’t take home a BET award for Best Female Hip Hop Artist, she was recently awarded with another special honor that she can add to her extensive list of achievements. The biggest congratulations goes out to Minaj after she was honored with the key to her hometown!

The “No Frauds” rapper was awarded the key to the city of Queens from the borough President, Melinda Katz, for her “outstanding career achievements in music.” Although she was unable to receive the plaque in person, Minaj flaunted her honor on Instagram. She shared a photo of the plaque with the caption, “#KeyToTheCity #MajorKey what a pleasant surprise? Wish I was there to receive it. Thank you so much! #MelindaKatz hopefully we can meet b4 I fly out again #NewYork #Queens #ProudQueensGirl #ProudNewYorker.”

As of late, there have been a number of rappers along with Minaj, who have been awarded with the key to their hometowns, including Big Sean, who was honored with the key to Detroit, Fabolous, who received the key to Brooklyn, and Drake (Nicki’s Young Money counterpart) was presented with the key to Toronto.

Minaj, who recently performed with 2 Chainz at the NBA Awards, is originally from Saint James, Trinidad and Tobago, but relocated with her family to South Jamaica, Queens at the age of five. Raised in Queens, Minaj represented her hometown throughout her career and in her music.

Recently, Minaj has found even greater success in her music career. Earlier this year, The Pinkprint rapper surpassed Aretha Franklin for the most Billboard top 100 hits of any female artist. On top of that, Minaj recently stated that she was the most awarded female rapper in history after being awarded with the ASCAP Award for her feature on Yo Gotti’s “Down in the DM” remix.

With that being said, congrats Nicki! Make Queens proud!
