Over the weekend, the 2017 BET Awards ceremony commenced with its fair share of highs and tweetable moments. With performances from Mary J. Blige, Bruno Mars, Big Sean, New Edition, and Xscape – the night was a night to remember in black excellence. However, it wasn’t without its fair share of drama. Atlanta trio Migos saw themselves in all kinds of trouble that night, beginning with a heated exchange between them and Joe Budden, and capping off the night with a scuffle between them and Chris Brown.
On Sunday (June 25), Migos stopped by for a live rendition of the Complex series “Everyday Struggle,” which stars Joe Budden, DJ Akademiks, and Nadeska Alexis featured as hosts. Apparently, during the taping, things took a sudden and unexpected left when notoriously reactive Budden decided that he wanted to wrap up the interview with Migos and move on.
This is after DJ Akademiks and one of the Migos members, Takeoff, had a back and forth about his presence (or lack thereof) on the “Bad and Boujee” single. The little jabs started there and didn’t seem to stop so Budden decided to get up, drop his mic, and walk away – in an action that many perceived as disrespectful. Namely, the Migos who all stood up. “What’s up?” they repeatedly asked the host.
Migos were joined by more members of their crew who tried to apprehend Budden to see what the rapper was trying to do. Budden’s antics probably would have slid off the back of anyone else, but Migos were clearly not having that. The clip ended there, but Complex promises to drop the episode in full today (June 26), which might hold more answers to the questions of how things escalated so quickly between the entertainers.
The second altercation of the night happened between Migos and Chris Brown – well, a member from Chris Brown’s team. Earlier reports suggested that Migos and Chris Brown were brawling over Karrueche Tran, Brown’s ex and Migos’ member Quavo’s current flame. But those reports have been dispelled in lieu of the truth. According to TMZ, a shoving match starting between the artists’ respective camps led to confusion.
In the footage that has emerged of the altercation, Brown can be seen leaning against a vehicle in the parking lot while the two’s entourages go back and forth verbally. After that, Quavo got shoved by someone in Brown’s crew, which led to the shoving mounting and more people joining in to continue the shoving match. There was no actual fight between Quao, Offset, Takeoff, and Brown however.
