Alternative R&B artist SZA has long been a fixture on many music listeners list of highly anticipated albums. Ever since her debut studio album, entitled Z, fans have been looking for the Top Dawg Entertainment First Lady to release her follow-up to the critically acclaimed project. Well, our prayers for a new project have finally been answered. Ctrl has a release date.
On Wednesday (May 24), TDE CEO Anthony Tiffith took to Twitter to make the official announcement regarding to his label artist. In the thirty-second video he posted, SZA could be seen kneeling near a huge pile of computer monitors where she posed while Wu-Tang Clan member RZA acted as a narrator over the visual. The tweet captioned “a word from RZA” revealed the details fans have long awaited.

Ctrl is slated for a June 9 release.
Shortly after, SZA posted three videos on her Instagram, captioned “S,” Z,” and “A,” which included a similar aesthetic and also featured RZA narrations.
Ctrl is a very ironic name for an album that has seen some issues with coming to fruition. SZA even voiced her frustrations last year about other label mates seeing release dates for projects (namely Kendrick Lamar), but her follow up to her Z debut still failing to see the light of day. In the deleted tweet, SZA spoke directly to TDE president Terrence “Punch” Henderson wrote, “I actually quit. [Terrence Henderson] can release my album if he ever feels like it. Y’all be blessed.”
Ctrl, formerly known as A, was also meant to come out in February, but was pushed back again until now.
With the release of last month’s infectious vibe “Love Galore,” which featured Travis Scott, fans had a feeling that Ctrl would drop soon. They were right.
Our ears will be perked for Ctrl’s release on June 9.
