Can a struggling rapper become Mayor? Well, as seen in the trailer for ABC’s newest comedy, The Mayor, it can happen pretty easily!
After years of hustling and making music in his bedroom, a young rapper, Courtney Rose, is desperately in need of a big break. Tired of waiting for his opportunity, the struggling rapper decides to take matters into his own hands and thinks of a publicity stunt to generate buzz for his music. Enter the idea of becoming mayor of his hometown. However, in a turn of events – his plan of becoming mayor actually comes to fruition as he is given the election victory. Enlisting the help of his mother (Yvette Nicole Brown) and friends, Courtney Rose realizes that he can use his newfound power to help the city that raised him.
From the mind of Tony Award Winner, Daveed Diggs, The Mayor stars Brandon Micheal Hall as Courtney Rose (Search Party, Cecile on the Phone), Bernard David Jones as Jermaine Hardaway (Meet the Browns, House of Payne), Lea Michele as Valentina (Glee, Scream Queens) and Marcel Spears as TK.
Along with Daveed Diggs, Jeremy Bronson (Speechless, The Mindy Project) and Jamie Tarses (Men at Work, Happy Endings) will also serve as executive producers. The pilot is to be directed and produced by James Griffiths (Black-ish)
