What a time to be alive. The 2017 Billboard Music Awards were lit, especially for Toronto’s very own More Life rapper Drake. Aubrey “Drake” Graham broke Adele’s previous all-time record of most wins in one night by an artist (12). He also set a new record by walking away from the event last night (May 21) with 13 awards. So, Drake is now the titleholder for Most BBMAs Wins in a Night.
The VIEWS rapper managed to acquire 10 wins before the live show had even started broadcasting. Among those wins were Top Rap Artist, Top Rap Tour, Top Rap Album, Top R&B Collaboration, Top R&B Song, Top Hot 100 Artist, Top Streaming Song (Audio), Top Billboard 200 Artist, Top Streaming Songs Artist, and Top Song Sales Artist. Wow, what a time to be alive.
His eleventh award aired during the show and was for Top Male Artist. While his twelfth was for Top Billboard 200 Album. His thirteenth, and undoubtedly the night’s biggest award, was for Top Artist Award.
“I want to dedicate this award to all the managers, to all the producers, all the engineers. I want to dedicate this award to the fans. I promise you – I promise you that any artist – we’re nobody without the people that keep up with us, put up with us, and stay up with us,” Drake said during his acceptance speech for the Top Male Artist award.
Drake also took to the stage that night to perform his More Life hit “Gyalchester” with an iconic performance in Vegas’ renowned Fountains of Bellagio. It was a dope contrast from other performers who chose to perform inside of the T-Mobile Arena. Drizzy Drake took things up another notch with the help of his hype man Baka, water works, and pyrotechnics. It was truly one of the more noteworthy performances of the night.
Other BBMA big winners included Beyoncé who took home five awards, Rae Sremmurd who took home one, and Desiigner who also took home one award. Some additional winners and their categories, as well as Drake’s acceptance speech, can be viewed below. Winners are in bold with an asterisk.
