Jay Z and Gloria Carter’s Shawn Carter Foundation Partners with eBay for Charity

Gloria Carter, mother of rapper mogul Jay Z, and co-founder of the Shawn Carter Foundation, is partnering up with eBay for Charity and it’s all for the youth of today. Helping underprivileged students in the pursuit of their education is nothing new for the Shawn Carter Foundation, but teaming up with eBay in that pursuit is.

VIBE reports that the launch of the eBay for Charity auctions started Monday (May 15) and will run until May 24. The campaign lasts for 10 days and will give fans the opportunity to donate as well as bid on celebrity memorabilia and unique experiences. Unique experiences available at the eBay for Charity auction include Made in America VIP passes, a VIP lounge party at Jay Z’s 40/40 Club (NYC), a chance to meet Robinson Cano (Seattle Mariners) or CC Sabathia (New York Yankees), among other experiences. Celebrity memorabilia from celebs like Demi Lovato, Nick Jonas, and DNCE are available for auction as well. Signed guitars from Nick and Joe Jonas are a couple of examples of celebrity memorabilia up for auction.

Additionally, symbolic “gifts” can also be purchased that range in price from $10 to $100. Donations can also be made from fans to the Shawn Carter Foundation directly. When this is done, donors will automatically be entered into a competition to win a VIP Day taking place at the Roc Nation headquarters. That prize is taken up a notch with the chance for the final VIP Day winner. Per VIBE, the final day will “include a meeting with Roc Nation executives, hosting a listening session with members of Roc Nation’s A&R and marketing teams, a photo shoot on Roc Nation’s famous gold couch and dinner for two at the 40/40 Club with accommodations and flights included.”

100% of all proceeds received from the auctions campaign will benefit the Shawn Carter Foundation, specifically its scholarship fund and educational programs.

Shawn Carter Foundation is a nonprofit organization founded by Shawn “Jay Z” Carter and his mother, Gloria. Since its inception in 2003, the organization has raised over $4 million for underprivileged children. Per the Shawn Carter Foundation website, that funding has been awarded to initiatives to “empower youth and communities in need through the Foundation’s signature scholarship fund, annual college tours, study abroad experiences, counseling initiatives, and giveback programs.”

The partnership with eBay for Charity auctions seeks to further that legacy and mission. In reference to the partnership, Jay Z told Billboard, “Our goal is to touch as many people as we possibly can. There are so many young people — a lot of whom are first-generation students — that have the desire to attend college but don’t have the funds. My mother and father taught us to pay it forward and give to the community. That was my inspiration for the foundation. It makes me feel so blessed to be put in a situation where I can help the next generation.”

The Shawn Carter Foundation/eBay for Charity campaign is running now until May 24 at 4 p.m. PT. Click here for full details and to donate.
