Dave Chappelle will be joining Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper in the remake of A Star is Born. Chappelle will play a character named Noodles – an old friend of Cooper’s character who started playing with him in a blues clubs.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the movie is based on the 1937 film starring Janet Gaynor and Fredric March. The film focuses on a movie star who helps an aspiring actress find fame and whose alcoholism and age effects his own career. However, in the remake, Cooper plays Jackson Maine, a country music star on a downward spiral who discovers an unknown talent named Ally. The two engage in a romantic relationship and Cooper persuades her into fame, sending her into stardom – but as her career is on the rise, he finds it hard to cope with his fading music career. The film was remade in 1954 with Julie Garland and again in 1976 starring Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson.
Executively produced by Basil Iwanyk (Gods of Egypt, Clash of the Titans) and Ravi Mehta (Chips, Get Hard), A Star is Born is said to be directed by Cooper who also had a hand in writing the script alongside Eric Roth (Munich) and Will Fetters (The Best of Me).
Chappelle currently has two of his three new stand-up comedy specials on Netflix, marking 12 years since his last comedy special, Dave Chappelle: For What It’s Worth. Best known for his sketch-comedy series The Chappelle Show, the comedy king also hosted an episode of Saturday Night Live back in November – bringing back beloved characters like Tyrone Biggums, Chuck Taylor, and Clayton Bigsby.
