Boston College Student Creates New Freestyle Rap Card Game “Vers”
21-year-old Jerry Spatch is giving people a chance to spit their hottest freestyle with his new card game, “Vers.”
The freestyle rapper and student majoring in entrepreneurship at Northeastern University in Boston created the game with the intention to “break down what you know about rapping and make it for people everywhere.”
According to Spatch’s Kickstarter, “Vers” is a freestyle rap-based card game that allows players to rap personally and conveniently. The game features 400 category and base rhyme cards, along with the player’s freestyle and combined concepts. “Vers” can be played by all ages, genders and demographics.
Hailing from southern California, Spatch said to the Huffington Post that the inspiration behind the game came from freestyling at college parties. “Afterwards people would come up to me and say things like, ‘That’s amazing, how does your mind work so fast?’” Spatch told the Huffington Post, “And I started to think, ‘If I can do this, why can’t they?’ Freestyling is a mental exercise, it’s not like a piano or guitar where you have to strategically train your fingers.”
Spatch is looking to raise $10,000 on Kickstarter in order to fund the production of his game. With over $5,000 earned and 118 backers already, it looks like the aspiring entrepreneur may reach his goal by the May 24 deadline. If the goal is reached, Spatch will begin shipping “Vers” to the backers by September 2017.
“Vers” is a product of Spatch’s startup company, Spatch Games, winner of Northeastern’s Husky Start-up Challenge and featured in Bostinno Magazine as an up-and-coming start-up company.
