Jesse Williams Is Splitting From Wife of 5 Years Aryn Drake-Lee, Denying Spousal Support

Grey’s Anatomy resident heartthrob and Black Twitter’s honorary Woke Bae, Jesse Williams, is divorcing his wife of nearly five years, Aryn Drake-Lee. TMZ reports that the divorce petition was filed by Williams on April 11 and that the split between the couple is amicable. The two have two children together, a three-year-old son Maceo, and a 1-year old daughter, Sadie.

Aside from their five-year union, Williams and Drake-Lee have been together for nearly a decade. The former couple met in 2007. He was a teacher in NYC and she was a real estate broker. Back in 2010, he shared praise of his wife with USA Today, saying, “She’s been with me through all different facets of my career. She’s stuck with me through thick and thick and thin. We know each other in and out.”

Williams and Drake-Lee married in September 2012.

When news of Drake-Lee and Williams’ divorce broke yesterday (April 24), Twitter went in an outrage as rumors swirled that Williams had been getting cozy with actress Minka Kelly for the past couple of months while they have been working in Paris together and while Williams was very much with his wife. Contrary to those rampant rumors, Williams did not step out on his wife outside of their marriage. In fact, according to TMZ, Williams and his wife have been separated for more than a year now.

Still, no one from either camp has come forward to say whether or not the relationship between the Friday Night Lights actress and Williams is more than a work friendship. Minka Kelly has been known to be involved with high profile celebrity eye candy, including Derek Jeter, Jake Gyllenhaal, Chris Evans, Topher Grace, and John Mayer just to name a few.

Although sources suggest that the dissolution of their marriage is amicable, Williams seems to be taking much of the lead. The actor/activist not only filed for the divorce, but he also wants joint custody and is denying Drake-Lee spousal support. Since there is no prenup, this could potentially get messy. Hopefully, the estranged former couple can keep the peace.
