Serena Williams Announces She’s Pregnant With Her First Child [Update]

Superstar athlete Serena Williams, 35, just announced she is pregnant with her first child! Williams shared the exciting news with her Snapchat fam on Wednesday morning (April 19). The post was deleted shortly after, but it did its job, as early viewers immediately began circulating screenshots of her Snapchat pregnancy announcement on different social media channels.

In the photo, the 72-time singles winner is seen taking a selfie of herself as she poses angled to the side. In her yellow one-piece, you can see the beginning of a small bump starting to show. Captioning the photo are the words, “20 weeks.”

Congratulations and well wishes have been pouring in for the tennis champ ever since. The fact that she’s 20 weeks means that she was pregnant when she won her most recent Grand Slam title in the 23rd Australian Open final in a 6-4, 6-4 victory against her sister Venus. According to Sports Illustrated, her pregnancy might also be the reason she pulled out of Indian Wells and Miami in early March.

In an interview for Glamour magazine’s cover story last year, Williams touched on her desires of becoming a mother and starting her own family someday. In the issue, she stated, “That’s always something I’ve wanted as long as I could remember. And the older I get, the more I’m like, ‘I’m too young!’”

That same year, Williams took a big first step in the direction of turning that dream into a reality when she shared news of her engagement to Reddit co-founder, Alexis Ohanian. The news of their engagement broke on December 29, 2016 after months of pics of the couple started appearing here and there on Williams’ Instagram, hinting at a possible relationship between the two.

My only regret is not pointing my toe sorry coach Garry

UPDATE:

Despite the fact that Williams deleted her Snapchat photo immediately after announcing her pregnancy, a rep for the star has confirmed that she is indeed pregnant. Her rep gave a statement to The New York Times regarding her client’s pregnancy, and has also said that Williams will be taking the rest of the year off from tennis to focus on the pregnancy and being a mother. She will return to tennis in 2018. “Serena said that I should make sure if anyone asks that that is clear,” the rep said in the statement.
