Is Sasha’s Fate Already Sealed On ‘The Walking Dead’?

News broke last December that The Walking Dead actress Sonequa Martin-Green was casted as the lead in the new CBS All Access series Star Trek: Discovery. The actress has spent five years playing Sasha on the hit AMC series centered on surviving a post-apocalyptic zombie-filled America, but being cast in her latest project suggests that this season may just be her last.

Star Trek: Discovery will debut on CBS in May 2017 with a 13-episode season and will have Martin-Green portraying a lieutenant commander abroad the Discovery ship. 31-year-old Martin-Green will anchor the CBS installment of the popular sci-fi franchise, which is the first of its kind in over a decade.

Today, Martin-Green’s biggest break into the acting world is The Walking Dead, but Star Trek: Discovery may prove to be an even bigger break.

Fans of TWD have come to love Martin-Green as Sasha, who made her first appearance in the series’ third season with her brother Tyreese. Her character has survived the death of her brother, the demise of the prison, the Terminus cannibals, and even the death of two of her boyfriends. However, with Martin-Green’s new series on the horizon, speculation of whether or not she will be added to TWD’s ever-increasing body count has been on the minds of fans who follow the show.

Considering the way her storyline on the series is going now, it definitely looks like Sasha could be a goner. This arc features Sasha being held captive by Negan (played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and her chances of escape look slim to none. She’s already asked Eugene (played by Josh McDermitt) to help her kill herself and he gave her some poison pills in return. None of her friends are going to rescue her. Consequently, her fate looks a lot like death.

Martin-Green has remained mum about the details surrounding the fate of her TWD character. “Well, I can’t say anything,” laughs the actress. “I can say that the story is as impactful and powerful and dynamic as it always has been, and there’s nothing to worry about where that’s concerned.”

Hopefully this isn’t the last we see of Sonequa Martin-Green on the series, but knowing TWD, they don’t hesitate to pull the shocking death card by killing a fan favorite. We all remember what happened to Glenn Rhee, right?

There’s only one way to know for sure. Catch the season finale of The Walking Dead on Sunday at 9/8c on AMC.
