This years must see thriller Get Out inspired a new internet challenge that’s taking over social media.
The socio-political thriller, directed by Key and Peele’s Jordan Peele, follows an African American man named Chris, who goes away with his white girlfriend to meet her parents. As reported by NBC News, the film received an approval rating of 99 percent and a rating of 8.2 by Rotten Tomatoes, and finished first in the box office its first weekend, grossing $33.4 million.
No spoiler alert here! – The #GetOutChallenge is inspired by scene involving Chris and the groundskeeper, Walter. During the scene, Chris sneaks outside to smoke a cigarette, when he sees Walter emerging from the forest, running toward him at full speed. As Walter comes closer he makes a sharp turn, avoiding the collision with Chris and continues to run. Fans of the movie took to Twitter, YouTube, Facebook and Instagram recreating Walter’s running scene and creating an internet phenomenon. Even NBA star Steph Curry decided participated in the hilarious viral challenge!
Get Out isn’t the only film Jordan Peele has planned for us! During an interview with Business Insider, Peele says “Get Out” is the first in a series of horror films he will be making.
“I have four other social thrillers that I want to unveil in the next decade,” He said. “The best and scariest monsters in the world are human beings and what we are capable of especially when we get together. I’ve been working on these premises about these different social demons, these innately human monsters that are woven into the fabric of how we think and how we interact, and each one of my movies is going to be about a different one of these social demons.”
