ABC has revealed that their next star of The Bachelorette, where a female contestant tries to find love among a plethora of single men, is Rachel Lindsay- a black lawyer from Texas.
Rachel makes history as the show’s first black star in all of its 13 seasons. “I’m honored to have this opportunity to represent myself as a African-American woman,” the 31-year-old said on Good Morning America. “I just hope that people rally behind me like they did in Nick’s season…just realize that my journey is just trying to find love. Even though I’m an African-American woman, it’s no different from any other ‘Bachelorette.'”
When she visited GMA, Lindsay also talked about what an easy decision it was to accept her new role. “I’m a skeptical person, so I was excited that they asked me to do it but I was also equally nervous,” she said. “But then, when I started to weigh out the pros and the cons, I decided that this is too good of an opportunity to turn away.”
Rachel hasn’t been eliminated from the current season of The Bachelor yet, but her starring season of Bachelorette premieres May 22 on ABC.
