Donald Glover’s 2017 is off to a fantastic start. Fresh off of his double Golden Globe win for his work on his hit FX series Atlanta, the network has announced that the talented actor/writer/director has inked an overall deal in which he’ll develop television series for FX Networks and other networks and streaming services, in addition to continuing to executive produce, write, direct and star in Atlanta.
The first season of Glover’s series was a huge success both with audiences and critics alike. After only it’s first season, the show won the Golden Globe Award for Best Television Series - Musical or Comedy, and Glover was honored for Best Performance By an Actor in a Television Series - Musical or Comedy. Glover also won the Critics’ Choice Award for Best Lead Actor in a Comedy Series, and he was recently nominated for a WGA Award and DGA Award.
“Donald is a remarkable artist, effortlessly shifting from actor to writer, producer, director and musician to create one amazing project after another,” said Nick Grad,Presidents of Original Programming, FX Networks and FX Productions. “Atlanta was just the beginning, the breakout comedy of the year and a series revered as much for its originality as its honest look at the experience of being aspiring, young and black in that legendary city. We’re proud to partner with Donald in an overall deal that will allow him to continue turning his creative vision into incredible television.”
The network also announced that the hit comedy series will return for a second season in 2018 due to Donald’s production schedule-meaning he has a Star Wars film to shoot. Glover was announced as the actor that will portray a young Lando Calrissian, played in the original films by Billy Dee Williams, in the upcoming Han Solo story. “It’s really crazy. I’m very, like, honored. It’s a very big deal,” the 33-year-old actor previously told talk show host Ellen Degeneres.
