First Lady Michelle Obama has chosen none other than the media queen Oprah Winfrey to conduct her final interview in the White House.
The interview with FLOTUS will air as a special, titled First Lady Michelle Obama Says Farewell to the White House — An Oprah Winfrey Special, on OWN as well as CBS. In the sit-down, Oprah will “speak to the First Lady in the First Family’s private residence about life at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue and her eight years as First Lady of the United States, the legacy she’ll leave behind, and her plans for the future,” according to Variety.
Many have speculated that Michelle Obama may run for office at some point in the future, but President Obama recently put those rumors to rest during an interview with Rolling Stone, when he told the mag that his wife “will never run for office”. “She is as talented a person as I know,” he explained in the interview. “You can see the incredible resonance she has with the American people. But I joke that she’s too sensible to want to be in politics.”
The special marks Oprah’s first interview on network TV since her talk show went off the air in 2011. The Obamas and Winfrey have a long history- Oprah openly endorsed the family’s presidential runs for both terms and FLOTUS and POTUS have both appeared on The Oprah Winfrey Show multiple times.
Be sure not to miss First Lady Michelle Obama Says Farewell to the White House — An Oprah Winfrey Special, airing Dec. 19 at 8/7c on CBS, then again on Dec. 21 at 9/8c on OWN.
