Councilman Jewell Jones has made political history for the second time and he’s only 21-years-old!
The Inkster City, Michigan Councilman was recognized last year for becoming the youngest member of City Council at 20 and this year he’s moved on to become Michigan’s youngest State Representative ever at the age of 21! The Michigan Journal reports that “Councilman Jones will be filling former Rep. Julie Plawecki’s seat after her sudden passing earlier this year”- he beat out Republican Robert Pope for the seat.
Jones is currently enrolled as a full-time student at University of Michigan-Dearborn and is also a member of the Army Reserve Officers Training Corps, but politics has been an interest for him for quite some time. “My parents would drag me around to different things in the community. I was very involved in my church,” Jones previously told The Huffington Post. “Serving the people in this capacity has always been pretty natural for me.”
Jones celebrated his victory on social media, thanking voters for their support. “WE WON THE ELECTION – YOU AND I MADE HISTORY, YET AGAIN,” Jones wrote. “I’m looking forward to serving you all in a greater capacity. Please continue to pray for me, the team, and my colleagues as we move forward, together. Keep the faith my brothers and sisters.”
