Michael Ealy Heads to ‘Being Mary Jane’ for Season 4

Actor Michael Ealy is preparing to step back onto the small screen for a recurring role in the BET series Being Mary Jane.

The actor will star opposite the series’ lead, Gabrielle Union, and according to Deadline will play a character named Justin Talbot. Talbot, the site reports, is “the new producer of Great Day USA who. unfortunately for Mary Jane, also is the man who previously got her fired from CNN. Upon arriving at Great Day USA, he remains a thorn in Mary Jane’s side, and she must learn to cleverly circumvent his power plays.”

Ealy says he made the decision to join the Being Mary Jane cast based on two things: he’s a friend of Union’s and he believes that people of color must stick together in this world.

“I had turned down several network offers, as I really was not interested in doing another show at the time, but because Gabrielle is a friend, I told her that I’d seriously think about and talk with my team,’ the actor told Deadline about his new role. “At the end of the day, I felt like we all have a social responsibility to help elevate material with people of color in any way that we can, and if there was an opportunity for me to help my friend and the cultural perceptions of our work, then I would do my part.”

Being Mary Jane
will return to BET in January 2017, but in the meantime, check out the new teaser trailer for the upcoming season below:
