Solange Lands First No.1 Album

Solange has officially emerged from her sister’s shadow.

A Seat At The Table has just earned the 30-year-old songstress her first number album on the prestigious Billboard Hot 100 chart. The critically acclaimed album edged out Bon Iver’s 22, A Million which was forecasted to take the top spot. A Seat at the Table sold an impressive 72,000 total digital copies in it’s first week.

Solange’s impressive feat makes her and her superstar sister (Beyonce for those of you who didn’t know) members of a very exclusive club of siblings to score #1 albums. The only other sets of siblings who have achieved the feat are Michael and Janet Jackson, and Master P and his brother Silkk the Shocker.

While A Seat At The Table marks Solange’s first number one album, it’s her second time reaching the top 10. She first broke into the top 10 back in 2008 with her debut record Sol-Angel And The Hadley St. Dreams, which debuted and peaked at No. 8. Her first two projects, 2003’s Solo Star and her 2012 EP True, landed in the Billboard 200.

Solange has a always been a fan and critic favorite but hasn’t achieved much commercial success until now. The success of A Seat At The Table could be due to her growth as a singer/songwriter and her unapologetic blackness that shines throughout most of the album.

The physical version of the album is set for a November release.
