Kevin Hart Named Highest-Paid Comedian of 2016

Kevin Hart has usurped the highest-paid comedian throne from the comedian whose held the spot for the last 10 years.

Hart earned a reported $87.5 million over the course of the last year, coming out ahead of Jerry Seinfeld who has held the top spot since 2006. According to Forbes, “For the first time since FORBES started delving into the money of the funny business, someone other than Seinfeld has taken the title of the top-earning joker. Between June 2015 and June 2016, Kevin Hart made $87.5 million—over $30 million more than Seinfeld’s $43.5 million.”

Along with his top spot on the comedians’ list, Hart also placed sixth on the Celebrity 100, the annual list of highest paid celebs.

Forbes contributes Hart’s massive paycheck to the fact that he tours like crazy. “In the 12-month period, Hart played over 100 shows with an average gross of over $1 million at each stop. And these shows aren’t at dingy comedy clubs; Hart played stadiums and arenas, including Madison Square Garden and the Staples Center. Because the stand-up comedian’s set requires little more than a stool, water bottle and microphone, he takes home a larger cut of that gross than most rock stars would.”

Clearly the comedian is already working to maintain his throne for next year as well. He’s currently filming the Jumanji remake with Dwayne Johnson; is preparing for his new comedy movie, What Now; and will be providing his voice for the upcoming Captain Underpants animated film.
