Kerry Washington is one of TV’s busiest women-but don’t think for a minute that she has any intention on slowing down. The star has added another series to her roster, but this time, she’ll be behind the camera.
Variety learned that Washington will produce a new female-led police drama called Patrol, and went on to describe the series as “a workplace drama about four female LAPD officers who attended the police academy together five years ago and are forced to reconnect after a high-stakes, traumatic secret returns to haunt them.”
Washington signed an overall deal with ABC earlier this year to develop new shows for studios, and Patrols will be the first to come out of the agreement. Patrol will launch under her newly formed Simpson Street production company, which also produced Confirmation for HBO, which starred Washington as Anita Hill.
The site also reported that Chitra Elizabeth Sampath (Secrets and Lies, Sleepy Hollow) will serve as the show’s co-executive producer during the first season and also wrote the script.
Kerry has been the star of Shondaland’s Scandal since its premiere in 2012, a role that has since opened many doors for her- including the new production deal.
