Beyonce and Rihanna Top List of 2016 MTV VMA Winners

This year’s MTV VMAs was definitely the year of the black woman, from Rihanna being honored with the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award to Beyonce showing up and killing it with a fierce performance, to Teyana Taylor’ surprise body of work.

Beyoncé’s groundbreaking visual album Lemonade won eight Moonmen, including “Video of the Year” for “Formation,” at this year’s ceremony- but that’s not what stopped the show. Queen Bey showed up on the red carpet with her little princess, Blue Ivy, in tow, as well as a huge squad that consisted of the Mothers of the Movement, as well as a whole slew of the young women who appeared in Lemonade.

Rihanna was honored with the Michael Jackson Vanguard Award, but Drake almost stole her shine by giving her the most loving intro we’ve heard in a long time. So much so that a lot of fans thought he was about to pop the question right then and there.

Teyana Taylor stole the entire show without even performing in person. She’s the star of Kanye’s new music video, the steamy and surreal video for “Fade,” along with her fiancée, the Cleveland Cavaliers’ Iman Shumpert- and after last night she’s also the new crowned queen of amazing bodies.
