Nia Long is set to star in Lifetime’s remake of the emotional friendship drama Beaches.
The 1988 original film starred Barbara Hershey and Bette Midler and followed an epic friendship through the course of 30 years. Lifetime has opted to remake the classic, previously announcing Idina Menzel as one lead and now we know our second- Nia Long. Long has signed on to play the role of Hillary, who was portrayed by Barbara Hershey in the original movie.

Beaches follows the serendipitous meeting of two youngsters on the Venice Boardwalk, who, though worlds apart in lifestyle, embark on unexpected and lifelong friendship. CC (Menzel) is an aspiring singer trying to make it in Los Angeles. Hillary (Long) is the daughter of a prominent civil rights lawyer who struggles to find her own destiny. Their friendship—even with its ups and downs—sustains them for decades.
Long’s most recent projects include the short-lived tv series Uncle Buck, Key and Peele comedy Keanu, upcoming feature film Lemon, and upcoming indie Roxanne Roxanne.
The movie doesn’t have a premiere date yet, but began production this month.
