Lupita Nyong’o Honored at ‘Variety’ Power of Women Luncheon
Academy Award winner Lupita Nyong’o and The Walking Dead star Danai Gurira pose for a picture together at the Variety Power of Women luncheon, where Nyong’o was honored. Nyong’o is currently starring in Gurira’s Broadway play, Eclipsed, and the two are longtime friends.
During her luncheon speech, the actress pointed out that more women should support one another, instead of viewing others as competition. “I’ve been thinking about the ways in which it is so vital for women to help other women. To support other women. To lift one another up. We are often encouraged or even taught to bring each other down; to fight one another. We are taught that we can only survive in this world if there are no other viable women near us.” (via USA Today)
