‘Barbershop’ Stars Ice Cube and Common Bring Chicago Town Hall to VH1

The stars of Barbershop: The Next Cut are using their voices to bring light to the issues that citizens of Chicgao face in the first episode of VH1’s new Behind The… series.

Behind The Movie: ‘Exploring Chicago with the Cast of ‘Barbershop: The Next Cut is the first episode of the new series, which the network will use to explore all facets of pop culture and its intersection with current cultural and political issues.

The inaugural episode of the series is set at a local college and will highlight a variety of topics that young people are facing across the country ranging from relationships and artistic expression to gun violence, and the importance of barbershops to community activism. Also included are segments where the superstars visit a local barbershop and other Chicago South Side locations to discuss challenges living in the city.

The discussion will be led by Chicago native and Academy Award-winning artist Common, hip hop legend and producer Ice Cube and hosted by VH1’s Sway Calloway, who is also the series’ producer.”It is important to me that Barbershop does more than entertain,” said Ice Cube. “Along with comedy, the story touches on relationships and gang violence. This partnership with VH1 is the perfect way to expand this conversation.”

Other stars and notable figures that are set to appear during the program include: Barbershop co-stars Anthony Anderson, Cedric The Entertainer, Deon Cole, Regina Hall, Eve and Nicki Minaj; acclaimed former Chicago high school principal and Chicagoland star, Liz Dozier; Chicago hip hop performer who keeps his hometown’s challenges in his art, Vic Mensa; and Ryan Henry from VH1’s Black Ink Crew: Chicago whose tattoo shop is a legacy to his late sister and niece.

Behind The Movie: Exploring Chicago with the Cast of ‘Barbershop: The Next Cut premieres Monday, April 11 at 10/9C on VH1.
