NEW VIDEO: Iman Shumpert and Teyana Taylor ‘Promised’
Iman Shumpert and Teyana Taylor have given their love the music video treatment.
The Cleveland Cavaliers player released a video for his new song “Promised,” which also features his pregnant fiancee, Teyana Taylor.
In the song, which was written nearly two years ago, the NBA star raps to her,”I wanna marry your smile/I wanna spoil your style/I wanna sleep with your dreams/and then father the child.”
Well, it looks his lyrics foreshadowed his love life.As previously reported, Taylor and Shumpert got engaged earlier this month. The couple will be welcoming their first child together at the top of the year.
“The crazy thing about it is when I was writing it, I was speaking figuratively,” he says. “I wrote this song about a year-and-a-half ago. Teyana didn’t add her part until right before the playoffs last year. With everything that was going on it just started to line up in my mind, I kind of envisioned what was happening and timed it up accordingly.”
Shumpert further explains, “The song is about keeping my promise to people that I love and all the stuff I ever said I was gonna do.”
The Sasha Samsonova-directed visual is mostly black-and-white, and features silhouettes of a very pregnant Taylor as the point guard raps over the beat.
“Promised” seems to be the first taste of his forthcoming project, Home Grown, which he’s currently working on.
