U.S. Gymnast Simone Biles Earns Record 10th World Championship Gold Medal
Simone Biles has made history at the 2015 World Gymnastics Championships.
19-year-old Biles became the first woman to win three consecutive titles at the world championships last Thursday (Oct. 29). One step below her on the silver podium was Gabby Douglas, the first reigning Olympic champ to win a world medal since way back in 1981.
In all, Biles took home four golds from the Scotland competition: team, all-around, floor and beam; and one bronze: vault.
“It’s such an honor, especially coming from the United States,” said Biles, who matched Svetlana Khorkina for total all-around titles. “We strive for greatness.”
The 18-year-old Biles is a force to be reckoned with – she has the most world championship medals ever by an American woman, and, with 10 golds, the most by a female gymnast, according to the Associated Press. She is poised to make history again in nine months at the Summer Olympics in Rio De Janeiro.
