T.I. Clears Up Iggy Azalea Comments

UPDATE: T.I. has commented on his interview saying, Iggy is still his “partner.”

“Her life has taken her in a different direction. My life is still as it was before. But Iggy is doing what she feels makes Iggy happy,” T.I. told the Associated Press. “That’s what she should do. We’re focused on making the next Iggy record and dodge the same adversities we faced last time.”

ORIGINAL STORY: Looks like there’s trouble in hustle land…

Grand Hustle Head Honcho T.I. had an interview with HOT 97 host Ebro where he hinted that he had cut business ties with his mentee Iggy Azalea by saying their relationship took “a bit of a rest stop.”

During Wednesday’s edition of Hot 97’s Ebro In The Morning, T.I. said that his relationship with Azalea became strained when she publicly feuded with Q-Tip after the MC alleged she had appropriated black culture.

“After I kind of had smoothed it over, like okay, ‘What is really meant to be said here is…’ Then, after it was cool, you know what I mean, everything was cool,” T.I. said about defending his former protégée. “And then [Team Iggy] kind of came back and undid what I had just [did].”

He added: “I’m loyal partner and If I rock with you I rock with you. Right or wrong. We’ll discuss that later in the car. But right now, I’ma block the bullets, but when I say go…go. Just go. Don’t stand around and talk while I’m blocking bullets. I just feel “they” [Iggy’s team] needed some time to adjust.”

Though the 35-year-old rapper did have a lot to say about Iggy’s actions, he also sympathized with her a little.

“She had a lot thrown at her in one time, any human being anywhere is going to have a hard time,” T.I. explained. “It’s very difficult to be the new kid and to be the butt of the jokes and to be directed, like, be the direction of all the negativity, you know what I mean?… [Iggy] came at a time when culturally, this nation — she’s not from here — we were actually looking for a source for somewhere to place some pent-up aggression.”

Apparently, the T.I.’s comments caught the Australian-born rapper off guard. And, of course, she took to Twitter to let everyone know.

“Here’s the deal, I am still signed to @tip and do business with him. The first I’ve heard of us having an ‘issue’ is via a radio interview,” she stated in of a series of tweets. “Personally, I don’t think the radio is the place to talk about your personal issues with someone that’s part of your team…”

The “Fancy” rapper continued to respond to her mentor’s comments via Twitter: “He seems to think there’s nothing wrong with what he said, everybody else seems to disagree.”

For now, Iggy seems to be confident that T.I. will clear up the confusion.

“I’m sure tip will publicly clarify what he meant when he feels he has the right platform to do so and other than that, i’m chillin.”
