New Edition Biopic Miniseries Headed to BET
New Edition is the latest R&B group to be the subject of a biopic.
According to Variety, five of the six group members will reunite for the three-night miniseries premiering in 2016 on BET. Members Ricky Bell, Michael Bivins, Ronnie DeVoe, Johnny Gill and Ralph Tresvant will co-produce the untitled project.
The announcement was made on Monday, but there was no mention of founding member Bobby Brown. The group has reunited and broken up several times. Most recently, the group toured together, but Brown left the tour early due to health issues.
Jesse Collins Entertainment is set to executive produce the original miniseries with New Edition’s longtime manager Brooke Payne serving as co-producer and Abdul Willliams penning the script. The film will mark the first scripted music-focused TV movie for BET.
“From our beginning in the Orchard Park Projects in Boston to Hollywood and everything in between, just like the Temptations and the Jackson 5, we are ready to retrace our footsteps and show everyone how we got here,” New Edition said in a statement.
