Will Smith and Jay Z will be teaming up to produce a HBO mini series about Emmett Till.
Till was a 14-year-old African-American teen from Chicago who was brutally murdered in 1955 while visiting family in Mississippi for allegedly whistling at a white girl. He was kidnapped, brutally beaten and killed by white men, including Roy Bryant and J.W. Milam. The men were acquitted of the murder, but later publicly admitted their involvement.
Along with Smith and Jay Z, Jay Brown, James Lassiter, and Aaron Kaplan will also be serving as executive producers.
This won’t be the first time actor and the rapper have worked together. Smith and Jay Z each have producer credits on last year’s Annie, starring Jamie Foxx and Quvenzhané Wallis.
Currently, no writers have been named for the miniseries. Roc Nation, Overbrook, and Kapital Entertainment are the production companies attached to the project.
