Kendrick Lamar Debuts ‘Alright’ Video

After a epic performance at the 2015 BET Awards, Kendrick Lamar released the music video for “Alright” on June 30.

Directed by Colin Tiley and The Little Homies, the nearly seven-minute-long visual is completely shot in black-and-white. Following suit of the song’s lyrics, the video shows striking imagery of police brutality and racial tensions.

The video suits the song’s lyrics, which balance optimism for the black community (“Do you hear me, do you feel me? We gon’ be alright”), with frank observations about police brutality (“And we hate po-po/Wanna kill us dead in the street fo sho”).

The song comes from To Pimp a Butterfly, his first No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 chart.
